Communication skills
As stated above, managing people is predominantly about communication. So it is no surprise that managers need to be excellent communicators. Show you are no stranger to building relations via communication and effective use of both verbal and non-verbal means.
Ability to offer a vision
A manager has to be something of a visionary. At least to the extent of imagining where they want to see themselves and their team, being able to describe that vision well and, most importantly, sell it effectively to their team.
Ability to follow through
A manager cannot be only a visionary; they must also be able to see projects through to the end. This sounds trivial, but not everyone can do it. Many managers jump so much from one idea to another that the team never completes anything in a proper, successful way.
Knowledge of problem-solving techniques
There exists a variety of problem-solving techniques and project management methodologies. Knowledge of these techniques is partly a hard skill, but also a soft skill. In any case, it is a management skill no aspiring manager can do without.
Patience and tolerance
Last but not least, a manager must be patient, especially towards subordinates. They must be tolerant of individual differences and specific requirements, and generally be able to put their own ego aside.
