A good manager is essential for employee satisfaction. What does an ideal manager look like?

The way a worker perceives their supervisor plays a crucial role in their satisfaction and loyalty. Even the highest salary and the best company culture can never compensate for a supervisor who is incompetent, unsympathetic or unable to motivate subordinates. Do you want to increase employee satisfaction? Then ensure people in management positions have the necessary skills and qualities. But what does the ideal manager look like and what qualities must they have?

Credibility

As HR Review states, a manager must be trustworthy. They must take responsibility for their duties, not make excuses, keep their word, and not sugarcoat anything.

Positive attitude

Another characteristic of an ideal manager is the ability to view things positively. A good leader is one who sees opportunities rather than problems and will motivate workers especially at critical times.

Organisation

Even a person with the most human attitude and positive outlook will never be a good manager if they are not organised. The ideal manager must have a sense of system and of organisation so they can plan and organise not only their own work but also that of their subordinates.

Decision-making ability

While a democratic approach and the ability to debate should also be in every manager's repertoire, in certain situations it is necessary the manager in question ultimately be able to make quick and effective decisions. Decision-making and the ability correctly to assess a situation are therefore essential for any manager.

Supporting staff development

A manager should understand the importance of personal development. They should not only develop themselves, but above all support the training and development of their subordinates. A manager who constantly puts staff development on the back burner can never have a successful team in the long term.
