Effectively balancing personal and professional life is not only a win for employees but also primarily for their employers. Employees who succeed in achieving this balance are satisfied, loyal, productive, and willing to learn and develop. However, employees do not always manage to balance work and personal life. Here are the most common reasons why this is the case.

Being overwhelmed with work

Workaholic culture

In some teams and companies, a culture of workaholism prevails. People are rewarded or promoted only when they work beyond their capacity. This support is often hidden and not explicit, but employees feel that if they do not work outside of working hours, they have no chance of advancing in the company.

Using work devices for personal purposes

Nowadays, it is common for employees to use devices such as mobile phones or laptops for personal purposes. This has several advantages, but also one disadvantage — it reduces the ability to separate work and personal life.

Flexible working hours and remote work

If employees have freedom and a high degree of flexibility regarding working hours or work location, it is possible that they occasionally attend to personal matters during working hours and, conversely, work during the time meant for personal matters. Under such circumstances, separating work from personal life can sometimes be difficult.

Inability or unwillingness to delegate work

If employees are unable or unwilling to delegate their tasks to colleagues for any reason, they are forced to work on certain projects even while on vacation or when work piles up, requiring them to catch up outside of regular working hours.
