How to be immediately likeable to anyone you are talking to

Every successful manager must be able to build valuable and positive relationships not only with subordinates but also of course with managers, colleagues and business partners. Someone who can neither come across as likeable to those around them, nor communicate effectively, both in a group and on an individual level, can never become an inspiring and successful leader. Fortunately there are some simple and practical methods that will help you seem likeable to whomever you are talking to.

Smile

According to Addicted2Success, a smile is the simplest yet most effective way to build rapport with someone you are talking to. Simply smile and show good will. Almost straightaway the other person will subconsciously reciprocate.

Find common topics

Try to find common topics at the very start of your conversation. People immediately like anyone who is made from the same dough, so to speak. So if you find out you both enjoy fishing, playing the guitar, or you come from the same hometown, immediately use this to your advantage.

Use the other person's words and gestures

You may use the aforementioned concept of liking someone made from the same dough also by using the same expressions and gestures as the other person. Psychologically, you will immediately make them more interested in you and then better build rapport with them.

Ask questions

People love talking about themselves, often whether they realise it or not. So it is quite easy to seem likeable to them: you just need to ask them questions, let them talk and show a genuine interest in them.

Know the etiquette and assess situations well

Even if you succeed in building a strong rapport with someone, it can all be shattered if you make an inappropriate remark or cross certain lines. Be careful, assess well the personality and mood of the other person, and always follow the etiquette.
