Want to be charismatic? Four steps that will help

It is probably unnecessary to explain that people who are perceived by others as charismatic enjoy many advantages: they advance more easily on the career ladder, are more likely to become team managers, and people generally like to listen to them. Would you also like to become more charismatic? The good news is that charisma can be learnt. This article reveals four steps that will help you achieve this goal.

Decisiveness and assertiveness

As stated in an article on LinkedIn Pulse, self-confidence and decisiveness are qualities that make people listen to you more and perceive you as charismatic. Don't be afraid to act firmly, but with understanding and consideration, and make sure it is clear that you have healthy self confidence but not an excessively inflated ego.

Smile

A smile is the best and simplest way to show someone sympathy. Once you express sympathy towards someone, that person will automatically perceive you positively and start regarding you as charismatic. Don't underestimate the power of a smile.

Listening and interest in others

Today’s individualistic era favours people who care mainly about themselves. Perhaps that's why it always appears extremely charismatic when you show genuine interest in another person. Set your ego aside at least temporarily and try sincerely to empathise with the person you are speaking to. Take an interest in what they think and how they feel. The more sincere and human you are, the better the interaction with the other person will be, regardless of whom you are dealing with.

Gestures and expressions

The best way to show you really are genuinely interested in the other person is to respond to what they say using your body, posture and facial expressions. Sit or stand facing them in an open posture, respond with nodding and appropriate gestures, and allow them to perceive the nonverbal, positive, and charismatic signals you are sending in this way.
