Finally a perfect presentation: making a presentation truly engaging

Are you faced with delivering a public speech, presenting team results to company management, or any other presentation? Bear in mind that a successful presentation depends not only on its content, but primarily on your overall approach and ability to engage the audience. This article will describe how to impress an audience and deliver a genuinely perfect presentation.

These tips were published on the Harvard Business Review website.

Define the goals of the presentation

Consider in advance the actual goal of your presentation. Whom do you want to address and how? What is the ultimate aim of the presentation? Don't enter the stage with only a vague idea of what you want to achieve. Without a concrete plan, there will be no concrete results.

Gather information about the audience in advance

You can never impress an audience without considering to whom you are actually speaking. In order to use the full potential of any audience, you must find out in advance who they are, which companies they represent, what interests and concerns them, what they are looking for, and what they expect from your presentation and the entire event. Adjust your presentation accordingly so that it best matches the specific needs and expectations of the audience.

Don't be too serious

Regardless of the age of the audience or the level of formality, you will always achieve greater success with a presentation that is personal and speaks to individual listeners on a human level, while naturally maintaining professionalism and, where appropriate, a high level of expertise. Don't be afraid to include a few jokes or mild exaggerations.
