You may think that creativity is not a desired or important quality in your field. Creativity is often associated primarily with artistic disciplines, such as dance, design, painting, or advertising design. However, the ability to think creatively is often essential even in areas where we might not expect it at first glance, such as IT, technical professions, or sales. Let us therefore look at proven ways to deliberately awaken your own creativity, regardless of the field in which you operate.
Full focus and deep work
Focused attention, deep work, single tasking, mindfulness. All of these concepts have one thing in common. They urge employees, in today’s world full of distractions and conducive to procrastination, to learn to fully concentrate on the task at hand and not attempt to procrastinate or work on multiple things at once. For this reason, learn to practice mindfulness, meaning being in the moment or focused attention, and learn to immerse yourself completely in what you are doing at that moment.
Relaxation and rest
As an article on HR Morning states, one of the most important aspects of creativity is a relaxed mind, alertness, and sufficient rest. It is very difficult to engage the parts of the brain responsible for creativity, imagination, and visualization if we are not fully rested, are tired, and are merely glad to manage everyday tasks. Fatigue must be avoided not only physically, but above all psychologically. Therefore, somewhat paradoxically, supporting creativity also requires frequent movement and physical activity, because only in this way can we calm the mind and release hormones of happiness into the body.
No pressure, urgency, or interruptions
States of increased creativity can only be achieved if your mind is not occupied by doubts, urgencies, and deadlines. If you try to work creatively while knowing that you should be doing something else or that you are running out of time, it is very difficult to reach a state in which you can truly unleash your imagination. Plan creative activities for a time when you have no other obligations, turn off your phone, disconnect from the world, and for an hour or two think of nothing other than what you are doing at that moment.
