Four tips on overcoming fear of rejection in sales

Many salespeople don't achieve much success in sales simply because of negative thinking. They often worry about failure, they assume the prospect will reject them, they don't believe in themselves and they generally tend to think negatively. How can you overcome these negative thoughts and start fully focusing efficiently on sales? Here are four tips.

Acknowledge that you are truly experiencing fear of rejection

As Business Know-How states, the first step in solving a problem is admitting the problem. In order to handle your emotions and work with them, you first have to acknowledge and analyze them. Admit you have negative feelings, and if you know that you spend too much time thinking about a negative issue, look at your mental state in a wider perspective and learn to analyze what is actually happening in an objective manner.

Don't worry about things you can't control

Too often people focus on things that are outside of their scope of influence instead of focusing on what they can do. Stop getting desperate over things you can't influence and learn to systematically work on those things that you actually can have an impact on, and take your thoughts away from useless issues.

Get moving and relax

If you catch yourself thinking too long about a problem or if negative thoughts creep into your mind, the easiest way to fight these influences is to engage in physical activity. Excercise, go for a run, or do anything physically challenging in order to produce endorphins that will make you look at your problem differently.

Don't be overly self-critical

Remember not to be too hard on yourself. Keep in mind that negative feelings are normal and it depends on how you can handle them. If you succeed, treat yourself. If you fail at something, don't become desperate; learn from your mistakes.
