Are you unsuccessful in sales? You may be making one of the following three fatal mistakes

Are you going through a rough time regarding your sales numbers? Are you unsuccessful, either in the short- or long-term, in achieving your goals and do you want to have better results? Focus on the following areas and make sure that you are not making one or more of the following three fatal mistakes.

You are focused on numbers and quantity, not quality

Many salespeople, unfortunately, do not focus on quality, but quantity. In practice, this means that they do a lot of cold calling to contacts of questionable quality instead of making the effort to find quality, lucrative leads. This is a mistake. Instead of addressing the largest possible crowd of people and offering a universal solution, you should focus on a narrowly defined target audience and on offering a tailor-made proposal to individual quality prospects.

You neglect informal, long-term relationships with clients

Business Blog, on the American Express website, states that a good businessperson is one that is capable of building long-term relationships. These must be profitable to both parties, and the client must be able to count on an expert consultation by the salesperson. It would be a mistake to just look for clients and not for long-term relationships. Spend time building relationships with customers, and focus on the quality of the customer care you provide.

You don't choose your clients carefully and are losing your prestige

A salesperson must pay attention to their prestige and they must not be known as someone who sells anything to anybody. This strategy might be profitable in the short term, but not in the long-term. By selling an unsuitable product to an unsuitable client, you get dissatisfied customers who not only waste your time, but who also don't give you any referrals and don't buy anything else from you. You should spend your time and energy learning what clients want and need by talking to them and to adjusting your proposal.
