How to build a strong personal brand and “sell” yourself better

There is a saying that a good salesperson is able to sell absolutely anything. Of course, this is an exaggeration, but it's based on a fact which is generally held to be true in the world of sales – that while the products that you offer play a significant role in how successful you are, the salesperson's personality plays an equally important role.

The persona of the salesperson

According to Forbes, people often overestimate to what extent the features of the product they  offer affects their sales success rate. Though many salespeople believe that their failure to close the deal is the product's fault, the truth is that there is always a customer for any product. However, there are two conditions that need to be met in order for the sale to happen: First, the salesperson needs to address the correct target group. Secondly, the sales rep needs to be able to sell the product, and this is where the personality of the salesperson gets very important.

Selling yourself

Before you start offering products and services to prospects, you need to learn to sell yourself. The truth is that people will not buy from you if you can't “sell” yourself and your skills. The essential prerequisite of it all is trusting yourself, which is manifested in self-confidence that plays an irreplaceable role in any sales. During business meetings, keep in mind that you don't want the person in front of you to become your company's client, but your own.

Confidence is key

The sales profession is a highly competitive one. However, only a small percentage of sales reps makes it to higher positions. Tell yourself that you are going to be that person. Become a true expert in your field, believe in yourself and don't just sell products, but yourself, your services and your unique know-how.
